Chiropractor or Massage for Back Pain

Who should you see first for back pain?

Getting back pain is no fun. It often starts out of the blue or, even worse, when we are doing something we love, like gardening or exercising. When looking for a treatment provider, we often have one sipmple goal: get rid of the pain as quickly as possible. Who should we see first for back pain, a chiropractor or a massage therapist? There are a few things to consider.

Hands on chiropractic treatment
Hands on treatment, like chiropractic and massage can help back pain to get better quickly.

  1. Have you seen anyone before?

An important element of treatment from back pain is trust. If you have seen a person before and they have helped you feel better, whether it is a massage therapist or chiropractor, seeing your familiar provider will be a good place to start. Most back pain involves muscel and joint issues, and many good chiropractors will treat both muscle and joint issues, so if you haven't seen anyone for back pain in the last 5 years, then a chiropractor is a good place to start.

  1. How far away is the nearest provider?

Sometimes back pain makes it difficult to travel. Sitting in a car can be painful or we might not be able to walk that far. A practitioner that is close by will be a smart choice, whether it is a chiropractor or massage therapist. A quick sear of chiropractor near me, or massage near me will often provide many good options for care and this can be helpful in choosing who to see.

Find a clinic that is close and easy to get to. We have two locations now, with more coming soon, to help you get care that is close and convenient.

  1. How quickly can you get in to see them?

Many chiropractor offer same day appointments (like we do at our clinic). Massage therapists, however can take bit longer to get in to see. Try to look around at who near you might have an appointment as soon as possible. The sooner you get treatment, the sooner you are going to be able to move, and the sooner, in most cases, you will feel better.

clock on wall.
Time is an important factor when choosing a chiropractor or massage therpist for back pain. Our chiropractors often have same day appointments available

There are a few factors that are important when choosing between chiropractic treatment and massage for back pain. Ideally, you can find a place where chiropractors, massage therapists, and other practioners work together as a time, like our clinic does. Also keep in mind that a combination of treatments can sometimes be the fastest and most economical way to get better from a back injury so it's often the case that both are needed to get better. At Integrate, our goal is to help you get better in the fewest sessions possible. We now have two locations, with more to come in the near future, to improve your access to quick pain relief when you need it.
